Rowing

2025
LEARN-TO-ROW
(All Ages)

If you’re looking for an introduction to the sport of rowing, our Learn-to-Row program is for you!  The Niagara Rowing School is for anyone wanting to learn how to row. Our program runs for 8 sessions,  running Tuesday and Thursday evenings for the month of May. Should any class need to be cancelled due to the weather, makeup sessions will be provided.

WHAT TO EXPECT
During the 8 learn-to-row sessions we will introduce participants to the sport of sculling. This is the rowing discipline where athletes use two smaller oars (sculls).  The first session will be on-land/dock-side instructions. Anyone who has had previous sculling experience may get out on the water the first day.  It is expected that by the end of the second session all students will be out on the water. Through the balance or the sessions participants will learn:
  • boat and personal safety
  • fundamentals of the rowing stroke and proper body mechanics
  • rowing and equipment terminology
  • equipment care
  • basic maneuvers (setting up the boat, starting, stopping, and turning)
  • launch and docking
Participants will receive personal attention from experienced coaches who will help to develop these skills. During the program participants will get the opportunity to row in each of the three different sculling boats:
  • Quadruple scull (4 man sculling boat)
  • Double scull (2 man sculling boat)
  • Single scull (1 man sculling boat)
Upon completion of the program, participants will be invited to join the club for a reduced fee that will allow them to practice their new skill for the balance of the rowing season.

Dates for the Learn-to-Row program are listed below:

Week 1: May 6 and 8
Week 2: May 13 and 15
Week 3: May 20 and 22
Week 4: May 27 and 29

The price for this unique and fun experience is $350.

HST is payable on all camp fees (HST Registration Number 73219 4493 RT 0001)

Your Rowing Membership entitles you to row in our coxed fours and eights, and upon demonstrating your sculling abilities, entitles you to use our many recreational and racing sculling boats. Our casual atmosphere allows you to row on your own, at your own pace, and enjoy the beautiful scenery that Jordan Harbour has to offer
