Adult Learn to Row
Group classes for beginners. They will learn the basics of “sweep rowing” which is done in 4 or 8 person rowing shells. Each person pulls on one oar in these 43’ or 58’ boats, steered and guided by an extra person known as a coxswain or “coxie” in the stern of the boat.
The first lesson is on dry land as all rowers learn the parts of the boat, rowing terminology, the essentials of the stroke, how to carry the boat to the dock and place in the water, and safety lessons.
In 6 more lessons you will enjoy the camaraderie of fellow rowers, build self confidence, appreciate the efforts of teamwork, and command great respect for rowers from the high school level up to the Olympics.
All seven lessons $150. Continue to row following the lessons as a full member and your $150 will be applied toward the full membership fees. Register by May 22 for the first set of lessons.
Elite training is available in private or semi-private lessons from our very experienced and knowledgeable coach. Times can be made to suit your schedule. Many of our students have gone on to medal in some of North America’s most prestigious regattas.
Memberships: Recreational Rowing
Just feel like rowing again? Maybe you belonged to another more formal club that continuously trained for races, completed drills, and relegated you to the same seat in the boat year after year.
That’s not our style. Get together with other rowers in a club-like setting where athleticism, enjoyment, and exercise are combined from May to September. Your NRS club membership entitles you to row in our coxed fours and coxed eight, and if you have taken sculling lessons, to use our single recreational and racing shells. Our casual atmosphere allows you to row on your own, at your own pace, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Jordan Harbour
By joining as a full member of the Niagara Rowing School, you will have the opportunity to row any of our boats. We have racing singles, recreational singles, racing and recreational doubles, 4 person and 8 person sweep rowing boats. Full membership in 2017 also allows you use of an indoor rowing machine (ergometer) and other fitness training equipment available
We begin rowing by the end of April through to the middle of October, 7 days a week. Full members also receive 2 guest passes to bring out other experienced rowers to enjoy our facilities and equipment. We’ll even let you use our kayaks when they’re available.
Full annual membership for rowing and kayak use: $375 and 3 hours volunteer help. Additional family member $175. Each additional family member $125
NEW THIS YEAR:
Youth rowers, including any student enrolled in elementary or secondary school will join as full members for the entire season. One night each week, from mid May to mid August, we will have sweep rowing in a 4 or 8 person boat. This will be for beginners learning to row, and for experienced rowers improving their sweep rowing skills. If the weather does not allow us on the water, we will have a make-up lesson the same week.
In addition, we will give each youth rower 2 supervised sculling lessons teaching them to row in recreational and racing singles.
As a full member, youth rowers are entitled to row every day during our open hours for the entire season.
Youth Rowing provides an excellent opportunity for elementary school athletes to prepare for high school rowing programs.
Fees: Youth full membership, with access to all club rowing boats, based on experience level: $275
